Today I wanted to share some of my favorite inks with you all, and just why I like these inks. While I will admit that that I have not tried all that many inks so far, I have tried a good handful thanks to being able to get ink samples from Goulet Pens. I am going to discuss both higher maintenance inks like shimmering and sheening inks and more standard inks that don’t require quite as much work to clean. I am going to have them separated so that I will discuss the higher maintenance inks are first and then I will cover a couple of the simpler inks afterwards.

Some of my absolute favorite inks are actually either shimmering or sheening inks. I will admit that I am not very sure what they do for the sheening inks to get that sheen to it, but the shimmering inks are generally some sort of glitter like item that is being suspended in the ink itself so that when used the light will reflect off of the glitter. Since these inks have this material floating inside of them, these inks can actually clog your pen, so I would generally recommend using them in pens with broader nibs. I would also recommend using pens that are a little easier to actually take apart so that you can clean the feed a little easier along with the rest of the pen.

One of my absolute favorite shimmering inks is Diamine Purple Pazzazz. This is a nice dark purple that has lots of golden shimmer to it after it dries. I have only used it in pens with either a fine or extra-fine nib, as those are my preferred nib sizes, but I do believe that this ink would look especially nice coming out of a broader nib. This ink is a little flashy and not really something that I would ever recommend using in most work scenarios, but if you are just doing some personal writing or even writing a note to someone, this ink is gorgeous!

Another one of my favorites that I would not consider work appropriate would be Private Reserve Pearlescent Violet-Silver. This is another purple ink (Can you sense a possible theme to my colors?) that actually has a lot more shimmer to it than the Purple Pazzazz, but is silver instead of gold. This ink seems to dry almost immediately on nice paper like Maruman Mnemosyne, though it does still almost have bleed through where you can read it from the reverse side of the page. This is another ink that I have only used in an extra-fine pen, but this ink is very wet while coming out of the pen so I would actually recommend this ink, and possibly the rest of the pearlescent line from Private reserve, for use in a finer writing pen.

For something that is still on the fun side of things, but might be able to sneak into some work situations, I really enjoy Diamine Jack Frost. This is a very nice blue ink that has both sheen and some shimmer to it, though I think I have used it in a slightly drier writing pen so I am missing out on most of the shimmer. This ink I would definitely use in a broader and wetter writing pen to really get the most enjoyment with, but I still like it a lot even with my current pen not working the greatest. Considering this is a blue ink, I would use this ink occasionally at work, but maybe not as a constant color.

Now I will move on to more standard inks that should not require quite as much cleaning after use. Right now I would honestly say that Herbin Lie de The is one of my absolute favorite colors. This is a lovely light shade of brown that can offer lots of nice shading depending on the size nib you are using. I have seen some lovely shading especially in broader nibs, but again I have only used it in an extra-fine pen. As such, I mainly see the shading when my writing crosses over itself. One of the reasons that I really like this color so much is the fact that I consider this to be a very work appropriate color for nearly any situation where not legally restricted to black or blue inks. Even in my personal writings, this color stands out as something a little more unique on the page.

The last color that I want to share with you all today is Private Reserve Arabian Rose. For me this color comes off as a dusty pink almost burgundy, that can almost take the place of a red if no other red inks are available. The only way I could really see getting away with using this color at any type of job would probably be signing for anything, but overall I just would not really recommend this ink for work. For anything that is not necessarily meant for work, this ink does provide a nice little pop of color to your writing without hurting the eyes.

This has honestly just been a few of my favorites, and I tend to get new favorites any time I get new inks, but I hope you have enjoyed seeing this glimpse into my ink drawer.
