Hello readers,
Well it is not just a new month, but also the start of a new year. I am still amazed at how quickly the year went by, but now it is time for a new set of pens and inks for the month. I still have two of my pens from last month, and I only inked up three new pens. Now on to the pens of the month!
The first pen that I have to finish from last month is my Pilot MR in violet leopard. I still have about half of the converter of the new Diamine Early Dusk to go in this pen. I am still really enjoying using this ink, because it will fit any situation that I come across. I am even surprised at how much shading I can see even using an extra-fine nib. Honestly I don’t think I have seen another blue quite like this one.
The second pen that I am trying to finish off is my lilac Lamy AL-Star. There is also about half of the converter of Diamine Lavender Frost. I love the fact that the paper makes so much of a difference with this pen. On my favorite Mnemosyne paper I can really see the purple coming through the grey, but on any other paper it just looks like a dark grey.
The first of my new pnes and ink for the month I chose my Monteverde Ritma. I honestly like using this pen for brown inks, so I chose to fill it with Diamine Weeping Willow. I chose this ink because I was really not sure how I would like it from the swatch. It came out much more green than brown, but I am still happy for choosing this pen to put it in.
The second pen I chose to ink up this month was my TWSBI Diamond Mini-AL in grape. I chose to fill this with the last ink from the Diamine Inkvent calendar, Raise a Glass. I am still surprised at how dark it is, and have really been enjoying using it in my journals. I forgot to write in my draft with this pen, so I don’t have a good writing sample to share with you quite yet.
The last pen I chose to use this month is once again my spring green LAMY Safari with the left-hand nib. I chose to fill this up with Diamine Masquerade mainly because I couldn’t figure out what the base color was. I am having some slight issues with the shimmer in this pen, but I am not sure how much of a problem that is going to be. Hopefully I will be able to share some good news in a few days about how this pen is writing.
That does it for the pens and inks for this month. I will admit that I am surprised to be putting my Benu Talisman up for the month, but I figured I had been using it nonstop since I got it last year. Sadly I don’t think things will go so that I am able to get much in the way of new pens for a while, so I will be trying to come up with more content with what I already have. Are there any of the inks from the Diamine Inkvent calendar that you would like to see my thoughts on more than others? Of these inks, I think I like the Early Dusk best. I am on kind of a blue kick right now, so that may be part of it. But it is a really nice color. I was surprised by the Lamy green writing sample. Did it fade out because of the shimmer?
It seems like you are inking up a lot fewer pens this month. Is there a reason for that or is it just what happened?
As for inks I’d like to see more of, I go back to Bah Humbug. I really likes the looks of that from what you posted before.

After how little I wrote for myself last month, I decided it was better to be safe and only have a few pens to go through. I think it was a clump of the shimmer that stopped the ink flow. I will be trying to write with it more to try and get through that. I will probably try Bah Humbug soon, so be on the look out for it!

I have to agree with you the Early Dusk is a pretty odd (in a good way) color of blue. I usually just use Serenity Blue – it is just blue. I think I need to add that blue to my very short list of blues.
