Hello readers,
Today I wanted to share my thoughts on the new TWSBI Diamond 580 AL R in black. I was lucky enough to get this as a birthday gift right after it came out. I have been curious about these pens in previous colors, but was always worried about how I would react to the ridges on the grip section. Before I get on about my thoughts, I am going to provide some technical specs so you can compare it to pens you own.

The body of this pen comes in at 5.12 inches long, and the cap is 2.36 inches. When capped it has a total length of 5.59 inches. Since this pen posts like a regular pen and doesn’t have threads to post, I find it almost unwieldy when posted. As such I almost never post it. In weight the body come out to 17 grams, and the cap is 10 grams. I think that this is both a good length and weight for this pen. I find it very comfortable for use in long writing sessions.

As I stated earlier, I was a bit worried that I would find the ridges to be uncomfortable in my fingers. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they aren’t very sharp, and provide just the right amount of grip to not be slippery. Since I already have a TWSBI extra-fine nib, I chose a fine nib for this pen. I am really happy with this writing experience. So far I have only had one ink in here, Diamine Celadon Cat, but I have been able to see the shading properties of this ink. I am looking forward to trying this nib out with more inks once I finish what I have in here now.
That pretty much does it for my thoughts on this pen. I would highly recommend picking up one in any of the colors you like. Have any of you tried one of the 580 AL R’s? I think that my next post will be an update on my previous post, but I am not too sure yet. Until next time friends. Stay happy and healthy, and keep on learning!

I just got my first TWSBI, an Eco, a month or so ago. I found this one on a little bit of a sale, so I got it. I am glad I did. I love the pen, and now I feel like I could go ahead and splurge on a 580ALR in Prussian Blue! I can see how people get caught up in getting almost every color of almost every TWSBI!
The picture makes it look like there is shimmer in the cap. Is that just my imagination?

Ok. Thanks. I didn’t think Celadon Cat was a shimmer, but it looked like it might be.
